Famous Painting Re-Creation

Week of April 14th

I decided to use the American Gothic painting for this project. I think this piece of art is really interesting and it reflects an interesting time period in American history. The name itself is interesting, and I learned after some research that it was given the name because of the absurdity of the large gothic window on the house in the background in contrast to the rural American feeling of the two people in the painting. I also really like the artist, Grant Wood, who did a lot of paintings of countryside and farming scenes in the early 1900's. This painting is housed at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Process: I decided to use my parents to pose in this photo. I worked on finding some clothing and props that resembled closely enough the outfits in the photo. The clothes were far from exact, but it was close enough. I took about 80 photos and after doing some light editing on the final picture I chose, I really liked the result. I also posted it on Facebook and it got about 200 likes, which is a lot for me since I barely ever use the app.
